College Park, GA USA (1 night)

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Atlanta Airport-College Park on the southeast side of the Atlanta airport so that we could easily catch an Uber to and from the ATL Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway before our American Airlines flight to Rome via Dallas.

We took the free airport shuttle from the airport on Friday evening. Katie had ridden Marta down from the North Springs Station after visiting her parents while JT had just flown in from AA’s Media Day in Dallas.

At check-in, we asked to be put in a room on the side of the hotel that was facing the airport.  Even though the man checking us in said the hotel was pretty full, he was able to change our room so that we had a room on a high floor facing the airport.

Indeed, when we reached our room we were able to watch some large planes fly over.

We had planned on taking the free hotel shuttle to a nearby restaurant for dinner.  But Joe Leader, APEX CEO and one of JT’s contacts, invited us out to dinner at Capital Grille in Buckhead. We had a great time with Joe and his wife Jeanette!

Our meals at the Capital Grille were wonderful! Katie opted for the salmon, while JT ordered the tuna. Of course, we also had to order some of the lobster mac and cheese.

After dinner, we were treated to a nice ride back to our Holiday Inn Express.

We’d never ridden in a car on autonomous mode before!

We had planned on potentially walking over to the 5k the next morning, but we found the area around the hotel to have no sidewalks and generally it didn’t seem the best idea to walk in the dark. So we reserved an Uber before going to sleep.

We took an Uber back to the hotel after the race, showered quickly, and then caught the 8:30am free hotel shuttle back to the airport for our 9:55am flight. This driver drove rather fast and recklessly, but on the possible side we reached the terminal very quickly!
