RoboCup 2015

RoboCup 2015 flew by!

Katie was selected during pre-set-up day to make a speech at the opening ceremony on behalf of all participants. Despite being terrified by the large crowd and numerous media, she gave a great speech and didn’t show her nerves while on stage. Back at the hotel that night, she was recognized by one of the founders of RoboCup as the person who gave the nice speech!

Katie’s team struggled their way to the quarter-finals, which was their goal, but it was an extremely hectic and stressful journey to get there.  In pool play, we beat the new Swedish team Linkoping Humanoids 3-0 and Austrian Kangaroos 3-1. We lost to MRL (who we could have beat) 1-2 and HTWK (last year’s 2nd place and this year’s 3rd place) 0-3. We beat TJArk 4-0 in the play-in game to reach the quarter-finals, where we played rather terribly and lost to UChile (who we also could have beat) 2-0. Overall it was an emotionally draining competition.

The expressions in this photo sadly sums up the competition

The best part of RoboCup SPL is certainly the people. They are the reason Katie keeps working on the league’s TC and why Katie keeps working on Austin Villa’s team. The people make the league what it is, and the people make it worth while.  We’re excited for RoboCup 2016 in Lepzig, Germany!
