Cell phone voice/data service in South Africa

We bought a SIM card and voice package + data package for our use in South Africa.

How to purchase: We made the purchase through B4IGO (http://b4i.travel/index.php/en/) who coordinated with Vodacom Rentals (rentafone.net).

Pricing: We paid R378 online via credit card for package. Here is the price breakout:
– SIM card + R110 airtime: R199
– 500MB data: R149
– International calling package: R30

Pick-up: We collected the SIM card at Vodacom’s store location, located just to the right when you exit customs into the arrivals lounge at Johannesburg airport. Collection was fairly easy. I gave the worker my name and reservation number and he retrieved an envelope from the back storage area.

Phone set-up: In order to get voice and data on my phone (an LG G3), I had to set-up special settings:
Voice: Settings/Networks/More/Mobile Networks: Network mode: GSM/UMTS

Data: Settings/Networks/Roaming/aGSM Network/Access point names/[Triple dot]/New APN
