We stayed just one night at Sydney Harbor YHA before moving to the Intercontinental Double Bay for our second night in Sydney. We booked at Sydney Harbor YHA after hearing about its great views of the Sydney Opera House – and the views did not disappoint.

Room

We booked a 4 bed mixed dormitory for our one night stay since it was half the cost of a private room and we knew the free wifi would only be available in the common area. We ended up sharing the room with an Australian couple.

There were two sets of bunk beds with four large lockers in the room. You had to provide your own lock for the lockers, but each locker had a power outlet inside.  There was also a power outlet at each bed. We found the beds to be comfortable.

The room had a private bathroom shared among the four beds. Ours was clean and had a hand towel and hand soap – but there was no soap or shampoo in the shower.

Common Areas

We spent a significant amount of time working in the downstairs common area before check-in and until about 2pm the next day. There were couches, tables, and a counter in the common area. There were also plenty of power plugs.

There were four kitchen pods. We didn’t use them, but they seemed rather well stocked.

The roof-top patio was a big selling point.

The views of the Sydney Opera House were excellent and the hammocks and other seating areas were comfortable.

There were even power plugs in the covered part of the patio.

There was a TV room with a foosball table attached to the patio. We enjoyed playing foosball.

We used the luggage lockers downstairs a few times – we found that we could fit everything in a medium sized locker which was $4AUD for four hours.

Social Events

There was a free wine and cheese event at 7pm on the Thursday night we stayed at the hostel. The hostel has free social events most days.

The wine and cheese event was held on the roof top patio. We chatted with a variety of other people staying at the hostel during the event and ended up going out to the subsequent pub crawl.

The pub crawl was lots of fun. We ended up visiting four different historic bars near the hostel before calling it a night and heading back to the hostel.  Needless to say, we were hungover pretty badly the next morning.
