We stayed one night at Apollo Bay Eco YHA during our Great Ocean Road drive. We needed to arrive after check-in hours closed, but we called about an hour before check-in closed and the owner left us our key in an envelope.

Unlike many eco labeled things, Apollo Bay Eco YHA actually is eco-certified and uses a range of energy and water saving techniques to reduce its impact on the environment.

Room

We booked a double room for A$95 ($75). The double room had a bed, balcony, towel racks, hooks, nightstands, folding desk + chair, and a closet.  It was everything we needed.

Bathrooms

There were men and women’s bathrooms on each floor. Each bathroom had two showers with changing areas and hooks, two toilets, two sinks, and another changing area. The bathrooms were clean during our stay but did not provide any soap or shampoo in the showers.

Common Areas

The common areas at this hostel were excellent, and they were located in a different wing than the rooms so the rooms were quiet.

There were two large kitchens, two large common rooms with couches and desks, a TV room, a working room, and a roof-top deck. Everything was clean and well-functioning.

One kitchen was on the bottom floor while the other kitchen was on the upper floor. Both kitchens were very well stocked with plates, bowls, cups, mugs, utensils, and equipment. We had no issues heating up leftovers, but our fellow guests were also able to cook some impressive-looking meals.
