We’d booked flights into Rome during Oktoberfest with the intention of attending Oktoberfest. However, when Katie started looking at lodging costs in early 2017, prices were excessive (well over €100 for properties far outside of town and/or away from public transit).
There were some Choice properties available in Munich using points though. Properties closer to downtown Munich required many Choice points, but the Comfort Hotel am Medienpark was just 12k Choice points per night during our two-night stay near the end of Oktoberfest.
Comfort Hotel am Medienpark is a few minutes walk from Unterföhring station on the S8 S-bahn line between Munich Airport and downtown Munich. This made the location perfect for our stay, since we only used the S8 line during our stay.
The Comfort Hotel am Medienpark is in a quiet, suburban neighborhood.
The hotel itself is rather small, but it does have an attached restaurant (which is where breakfast is served).
Our room was older, but was nicely decorated. We had a queen bed, a desk, sitting area, and bathroom. The bed had two sets of comforters, which we prefer. When we checked in there were packets of gummy bears on our pillows. The room was everything we needed for our two-night stay.
We skipped breakfast on the first day because we slept in too late, but we did enjoy breakfast the second day (and somewhat regretted not getting up early enough for breakfast on the first day). Breakfast was a massive buffet with many different choices – including pretzels, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, and bacon.
Using Choice points to stay during Oktoberfest was a steal for us – we’d definitely recommend staying at the Comfort Hotel am Medienpark on points, since it is very well connected to Munich and the airport via the S8 S-bahn.
